Vacations
Per the Illinois School code, removing a child from school for the purpose of taking a family vacation is not a "valid cause" for absence. Therefore, teachers will not be responsible for preparing assignments prior to the vacation, and all make-up work must be completed within five (5) school days of the student’s return.
Lunch, breakfast, and milk money
Breakfast costs $1.50, lunch is $2.75, and milk can be purchased for $.50. Please make sure you put any lunch, breakfast, or milk money in an envelope labeled with your child's name and teacher. Place the envelope in the zipper pouch in your child's binder. We place all cold lunches in a basket that is wheeled down to the lunchroom. So please label your child’s full name and teacher on the outside of their lunchbox for easy identification.
Snack
Your child will eat snack everyday in the afternoon. Please make sure that your child comes with a small, healthy snack even if he/she is receiving a hot lunch for that day. We have a severe peanut/tree nut allergy in our classroom. Snacks containing peanuts/tree nuts will not be allowed in the classroom. Only fruits, vegetables, and cheeses are allowed for snack. Thank you for your understanding!
Parent Communication
A Daily Folder binder will be sent home daily. In the binder you will find your child's agenda, papers from school, and homework folder. Please check the binder daily and initial the day of the week. Important letters or information for me can be written in the agenda or put in the front sleeve of the binder. Please know you may also contact me at school 847-740-5320 ext. 3041. If you do not reach me, please leave a voice mail or you can reach me via email at christystockey@bighollow.us. I will also be posting a weekly newsletter.
Star Student
Each week throughout the year we will pick a “Star Student”. During this week, your child will be treated like a “star”. This is a time for each student to share special things about themselves. Each day the Star Student will be given the opportunity to share something different with the class. When your child is chosen, they will bring home a detailed sheet the week before outlining what the following week will entail.
Library
Library books are due every Wednesday. If your child does not bring back their books, then he/she will not be able to check out any new books until the old book has been returned. Also, please be aware that if a library book is damaged or lost compensation will be required.
Book Orders
You can place orders from Scholastic online. If you do not have access to the internet, please let me know and I can place an order for you. I’ve found these books to be much cheaper than if you were to buy them at a bookstore. Please be aware that when you order books, not only is it helping your child to read, but we earn books for our classroom library too!
Gym Shoes
Please send your child with Velcro shoes if he/she cannot tie their own shoes. Thank you for your help in this matter.
Birthdays
We celebrate birthdays for each student as well as celebrate birthdays that fall within the summer months. Summer birthdays can be celebrated at the end of the year or on your child’s half birthday. Please contact me if your child has a summer birthday and let me know when you would like to celebrate.
In conjunction with the school wellness initiative our class will NOT be celebrating with food. Instead, your child is welcome to bring in a non-food treat such as small goodie bags, pencils, erasers, or stickers are a great option as a classroom treat. Thank you for your understanding that this policy has been put into effect to increase good eating habits and to prevent food allergy issues.
